Austin's Harlem are the best new band! The best new take on Black Lips. OK it's narrow to say, OK Miami's Jacuzzi Boys are close as well, anyway they are both freaking awesome, but Harlem is for me at the moment some of the most addictive trashed out laid back 6-pack-in-the-sun-tunes I'v heard in long time. They made the Free Drugs LP back in 2008 which was great but are now signed to Matador and will release the new LP Hippies on April 6. And I'll tell you, Hippies is so freaking great! Opposed to bands in the Black Lips category, as I think of it, Jacuzzi Boys is the closest to a new Black Lips' sound (but nicer people hopefully), where as Harlem is more similar to the first The Strange Boys record called And Girls Club from In The Red last year, it's that more laid back bluesy, jazzy, rythm'n'bluesy garage rock. So that was a bit of thinking out loud there... but the point is I guess, check them all out if you didn't already knew them. Below both songs from the new Hippies LP with Harlem.
